Pablo Guido Inducted into the Jesus Gonzales Gomez UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame

The United Professional Horsemen’s Association Jesus Gonzales Gomez Caretaker Hall of Fame award is given to an individual who has shown a long-standing commitment to providing the highest level of care for show horses.

During the July 11, 2024, Thursday evening performance of the Lexington Junior League Charity Horse Show, the UPHA was proud to honor Pablo Guido as the 2024 inductee into the Jesus Gonzales Gomez UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame. Pablo is recognized not only for his caretaking abilities but also for his professional conduct.

Coming from a background of working with cows, mules, and horses in Mexico with his father, Pablo's passion for horses was ignited. His journey as a caretaker has taken him to several show barns, including Johnny Jones, Kalarama, Dena Lopez’s Double D Ranch, Neil Visser, and, since 2010, High Caliber Stables. His dedication to show horses goes beyond his role as a caretaker, as he is also involved in training young horses, caring for the property, and assisting with the Lesson Team when needed. Without hesitation, farrier Gordon Ingram describes Pablo as a leader. His teammates echo that sentiment, adding he has a true passion for his job and strives for excellence in all that he does.

Pablo is known for his passion for horses and his genuine care for people. He is described as a true horseman who always seeks improvement and values both horse and human connections. His honesty, attention to detail, and leadership qualities are commendable. Pablo has had the honor of caring for numerous successful horses in his career and has also started many colts that have gone on to achieve success. His list of horses under his care includes WC Callaway's Clemency, WC Fort Chiswell's Royal Kiss, WCC CH Moonlight Memories, WCC CH Katharine the Great, CH Iconium, WCC CH Sunken Treasure, WCC CH Let's Talk, WCC CH I'm Something Wicked, WCC CH Bubble Bath, WC Good Luck Chuck, RWC Monnington Veiled Mistress, WC CH Our Sonflower, WC Finest Hour Spent, WCC CH Double Black Diamond, WCC CH Talkin' to You, Callaway's Pundit, CH RWC My Stiletto, and WCC CH Stonecroft I'm Radiant, to name a few. Pablo has started many colts that have gone on to be successful, including RWC Sedgefield's Invictus, RWC Sedgefield's Never a Doubt, WC CH Sedgefield's Mirror Image, WC Sedgefield's Miraculous, RWC Sedgefield's Legacy, Sedgefield's Extraordinary, WC Sedgefield's Diamond Girl, WCC Sedgefield's Best Story Ever, RWC Sedgefield's Belladonna, WC Bluegrass Darlin', and RWC Suddenly Speechless.

Ultimately, Pablo’s impact extends beyond his professional accomplishments, as he is valued as a trusted confidante and mentor by many in the equestrian community. Vickie Byrd explains, “One of the best feelings in the world is when Pablo puts his arm around you with a big smile on his face after a good ride; you know it is authentic. When you see Pablo recognizing success, you see joy,” says Vickie Byrd. His caring and genuine nature has left a significant impression on our industry.

Tonight, we recognize Pablo Guido for his accomplishments, passion, and dedication to his craft. We would be remiss, however, if we did not mention one of his most significant accomplishments—being able to keep Mary Orr in line, a commendable feat in itself.

Congratulations once again from all of us Pablo, on your well-deserved induction into the Jesus Gonzales Gomez UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame.
