Over $60,000 Raised At New York Morgan Stallion Service Auction
Tuesday, February 4, 2025
It was a new year and a new committee for the New York Morgan Stallion Service Auction. With committee members emeriti Ivan Beattie and Lynn Peeples, Chairperson Jennifer Peek focused on the young trainers in the New York area, tapping Anna Kufs, Chris Bernard, Keith Friday, Lindsay Perry Atkinson, Rebecca Arotsky and Will Vidler, and Tuffy Owens to fill out the revamped team. "The idea was to focus on the people who need the Morgan industry to continue to move forward for the next 20 years," said Owens. "That's why we went with a bit of a youth movement. Most all of these people are trainers who also put skin in the game by breeding horses as well."
With several stallions still available to purchase between now and February 28th, the total raised is already over $60,000, the first time in quite a while that that figure has been reached for this program. The high-selling stallions were Man In Black GCH ($4,100), Dressed Up GCH ($3,400), MLF Dynamic GCH ($3,100), along with EKL Shakedown CH, Leonardo’s Cry CH and CBMF Over The Moon who each sold for 2,800.
The prize money will be paid out at the 2026 New York Morgan Regional in a weanling class and at the 2030 New York Morgan Regional in four-year-old classes, one for saddle seat horses and another for hunt and western entries. All babies by the stallions sold are eligible to compete for the prize money, with a bonus paid to weanlings that are a direct result of a purchase in the stallion service auction.
"We are exceptionally grateful to the stallion owners that make this program possible," said Owens. "They really bought into what we are trying to accomplish for the breeders in the area." This year's event was held at the Del Lago Casino in Waterloo, New York. Plans are in the works for more excitement and an even bigger program in 2026!
